During my trip to the Christmas markets in Vienna, I also did a day trip to Bratislava. The drive across the border only takes one hour and I got the ticket for £10 return with Flixbus. I had a nice day trip to Bratislava and have to say that I enjoyed it a lot more than Vienna. I would recommend this city as a good Christmas market break for a weekend. There are fewer crowds, it’s cheap, and it does not feel commercialised at all. Part of me wishes I had chosen to base myself in Bratislava instead of Vienna. But to be honest…you only need a day to explore Bratislava so it’s not somewhere I would recommend spending a week in (unless you wanted to travel around other parts of Slovakia too)
The Blue church was unfortunately closed but it was nice to see the outside.

This is Bryndzové halušky which is Slovakia’s national dish. It is potato dumplings mixed with sheep cheese. Bits of bacon are added on top. I have to say that it tastes delicious.
This is the Christmas market. It was so much cheaper than the Christmas markets in Vienna. I drank medovina (honey wine) and ate lokše (a potato flatbread filled with cheese)

Beeswax candles for sale at the Christmas market.
