It’s nice when someone sticks to travel plans and you have some company. I had a buddy on my trip to Skopje Macedonia. Initially, I had booked it as a solo trip but she had some time off work and wanted to come with me. It’s also no secret that I LOVE the Balkan countries. They are cheap, the food is good, and the people are friendly. Take a look at how we spent a weekend in Skopje Macedonia.
Day 1

One of the pictures shows a fountain with a very beautiful sculpture of a woman breastfeeding. The city of Skopje is full of pretty fountains. We spent the first day of our trip wandering around the city which was nice. Another picture shows some food we had in a traditional Macedonian restaurant. This dish is a vegetable and meat stew named turli tava. The photo of the building shows the Memorial House of Mother Teresa.
Day 2
On the second day, we had some Greek salad and eggs for breakfast. Balkan countries always do the best salads…I honestly feel like they have the freshest vegetables in Europe. After eating, we did a tour that involved taking a cable car to the top of Vodno Mountain. Another photo shows a small church in the middle of a village. To be honest I don’t remember the name of this place as it was a short stop on our tour.
Pictured above is a boat ride we took on Matka Canyon. We visited some caves which are shown in one of the pictures. After the tour ended, we returned to Skopje city centre and had dinner. This is where my memories and sober state start to fade away a little bit. The restaurant was selling very cheap cocktails (£3-4). So we had a few of those and then tried Rakija which is also pictured above. Rakija is a very strong liquor that is native to all the Balkan countries and Turkey.
I hope you enjoyed my post about how I spent a weekend in Skopje Macedonia. Would I return to this country? yes…but next time I want to go to Ohrid and maybe cross over the border to Albania for a day.
