My first ever experience of a European Christmas market was a weekend trip to Frankfurt Germany in 2016. The day before flying out, I became sick with a flu but this trip helped to raise my spirits. I visited the Christmas market and Frankfurt Main Tower, and then spent the rest of my time resting in my hotel bed. Anyway…Please take a look at my pictures below.
Pretty Christmas bauble decorations at a stall.
Drinking Glühwein to warm myself up. You pay a €3 deposit for the mug and can either keep it or return the mug for your €3. I chose to keep the mug of course, as a lovely souvenir. But it looks like they’ve had the same mug since 2012 so I’m not sure how long I’ll want to keep it.
A store selling lebkuchen at the market, they have cute little messages on them.
Let’s not forget about bratwurst. I have a confession to make…this was the first time that I ever tried a bratwurst, even though I have been to Germany 3 times before this. Bratwurst is very tasty!
A stall selling roasted nuts. I have no idea what any of them are so I bought a bag with all the different mixes.
My overall verdict is that the Frankfurt Christmas market is quite small. The city is also business-focused, which means there isn’t much to do in terms of tourism. It could be nice for a day trip but I would not have it as a first choice. There are plenty of other cities in Germany with larger Christmas markets and other attractions.
Feel free to check out my other Christmas market trips in Switzerland and Austria.
