I have just returned from my first trip to Poland which was a weekend in Kraków. I loved it! So I thought I would share some of the things I did. In the main square (Rynek Główny), there are pretty horses ready to give rides to tourists. I didn’t feel like doing this as I was travelling alone, and it was soooo cold outside. But I did snap a selfie outside the church in the square (Kościół Mariacki). The photo on the right shows Galeria Krakowska, which is a beautiful shopping centre connected to the main station. I bought some socks here, and wanted to buy a couple of jumpers but I was scared of missing my train to the airport.
The photos above show Sukiennice Cloth Hall is a place worth visiting. It’s an indoor market full of souvenirs and clothes. I came here twice during my visit to Kraków (that is how much I love this place!) it’s obviously not the cheapest place but it’s not expensive either. As you can see from the top picture, there are many amber stalls. So I bought an amber necklace and matching earrings. I also bought some wool winter slipper socks, gloves, a tote bag, a Kraków t-shirt, and a wooden box.
I ate pierogi on my first day. It was at an outdoor restaurant that was covered with a glass roof and had fire heaters and blankets to keep everyone warm. I also tried a mushroom bread bowl soup which was a little bit disappointing, because it didn’t have any flavour. There are many carts in the city selling Obwarzanek Krakowski which is a ring-shaped bread. I got one with cheese and brought it back to England. Oh…and don’t forget the vodka. It is cheap in Poland and comes in many different flavours. I went to Wódka Cafe Bar and got a tasting platter. This included 6 shots for 30 złoty (roughly £5 at the time). I honestly wasn’t expecting the shots to be that big! So…no I didn’t finish them, but made sure I tried each flavour. Then I went straight back to my hotel to have a nap and sober up.
