I am a really seasonal person, and October is probably my favourite month of the year. It’s been on my bucket list to visit a pumpkin patch for a long time. It’s never really been a thing in England, but with the rise of social media, we can see all the fun seasonal things that take place in America. So a few “pumpkin patches” have opened around England, and I dragged my friend along to Hobbledown Heath, on the outskirts of London.

Things to do at Hobbledown Heath Pumpkin Patch
Pick pumpkins. They have all different sized pumpkins and prices start at £3 for the smallest. I paid £4.50 for mine. The hut next to the entrance is where you can pay for your pumpkin.
Play games. They have a covered games area where you can play draughts/tic tac toe. The boards and counters are all seasonally decorated, and it does look like an ancient village hut. So cute!
Toast a marshmallow. You can buy them from the same hut where you pay for your pumpkin. There is a firepit nearby for you to toast the marshmallows.
Eat food. There are a few reasonably priced food stalls where you can eat burgers, hot dogs, pumpkin-flavored drinks and mulled cider.
Go to one of the pumpkin nights. From 25th-30th October, the pumpkin patch will be open later from 5pm-8pm. Perfect location for date night!
Top Tips for Visitors:
- Arrive Early: This will help you to avoid crowds and get the best pumpkins. I would recommend going on a weekday, because it was not busy at all when we went on a Friday afternoon.
- Wear Suitable Clothing: wear wellies or boots if the weather is wet, as it can get muddy in the pumpkin fields. We went on a dry day but some of the pumpkins were covered in wet mud.
- Bring a Bag: Unfortunately, they do not give you a bag so I would advise you to bring one heavy enough to hold pumpkins.
- Carve your pumpkin: There is a pumpkin carving area here which is very convenient.
Bring tissues and hand sanitiser: There are a few “festival type” portable toilets near the entrance. But I dont think there is really anywhere to wash your hands, so I would recommend brining tissues and hand sanitiser.
What a fun adventure! I hope the pumpkin wasn’t too heavy to haul back on the bus & tube!! Happy Halloween 🎃
The pumpkin was heavy but I guess it was worth it 🙂
What a cool place.
I took my nieces to a pumpkin patch last year and they loved it. If we were nearby, they’d want to visit Hobbledown Heath Pumpkin Patch. It’s amazing to see how excited kids get around Halloween.
Yes it’s a really fun activity, especially for kids.
I never realized pumpkin patches are a mostly American thing. Very interesting, and how very fun for you to have one nearby to experience. They’re so much fun!
Yes, it’s nice to see that England have decided to copy America a little bit in that regard with seasonal activities 🙂
