Staying in a riad allows you to have a traditional experience when you visit Morocco. I chose Riad Laly and it turned out to be a good experience! You will be given the option of having a tajine dinner on arrival for €15. Mine included a lemon and chicken tajine, a large Moroccan salad, and yoghurt with fruit for dessert. Murad (the host) picked me up from the taxi rank which was a 5-minute walk from the property. I was offered some traditional mint tea whilst checking in, and given a map with some advice about the city.
The Good
✈ Free traditional Moroccan breakfast. This was very nice and filling (pictured above)
✈ Central location. A 5-minute walk from Jemaa el-Fnaa (the main square). The souks and many restaurants are also within walking distance.
✈ Beautiful rooftop terrace with sofas and deckchairs to relax.
✈ My room had air conditioning which is especially important in Morocco. It’s hot!
✈ Murad (the manager) is friendly and speaks many languages.
The Bad
✈ No lift and the stairs are quite steep.
✈ No set days or hours for the reception desk.
✈ Located down some alleyways which means that cars/taxis cannot enter. I felt a bit scared walking back in the evenings as a solo female.
✈ There are generally many scammers loitering on the streets close to the property. This is due to the property being located in a tourist hotspot.
My overall verdict is a yes! It’s so convenient to stay somewhere that’s centrally located but still hidden away from all the night time noise. As I have said before, you also get a traditional experience. For that reason, I would absolutely stay here again if I ever return to Marrakesh in the future. Click here to read my Marrakesh guide.
I do love to stay in a central location
Yes it makes it so much easier to get around 🙂
Thanks for the helpful info! Convenient locations make life so much easier + I love when breakfast is included! Boo on the scammers loitering but I guess unfortunately somewhat/almost to-be-expected in tourist hotspots.
Yes, i’m not really a breakfast person but having the option is so convenient.
I loved staying in a riad when we were in Marrakech, such a cool experience. Really helpful guide with the pros and the cons 🙂
Yes staying in a riad is such a lovely experience 🙂 where did you stay?
Sounds like a hidden gem! Thanks for the review, it will be helpful for when we visit Morocco.
You’re welcome 🙂
Great post. Looks like a nice place.
Thank you. Yes it was definitely good value for money 🙂
The free traditional Moroccan breakfast sounds like a very good addition. I like how you also included the cons. Very thorough review.
