What do we do when we see a £20 return flight to a small city? we book a day trip. People always call me crazy for doing international day trips but I’m passionate about exploring. Europe is a small continent so a 1.5 hour flight to Germany is no different to a 1.5 hour train ride to Bristol. I found a flight that left London at 6.30 am and another one that returned at 7 pm. It takes around 1.5 hours to fly from England to Nuremberg Germany, so it was almost 9 am local time by the time I landed. It’s a very small city so a day trip was sufficient.
This traditional old German street is called Weissgerbergasse. It’s a popular attraction because the street appears the same as it was during medieval times. I always like seeing things from the olden days because it makes me wonder what life was like. You’re just left to form your own stories and speculate, as you walk around places like this. I got here early so I had plenty of space to snap some pictures.
I decided to try a German bretzel with salt… and flicked a lot of the salt off because there was too much! but it was a nice cheap snack at €0.55
Rostbratwurst mit sauerkraut…or sausages with cabbage in English. Wow German food is a lot heavier than it looks, I genuinely struggled to stomach all of those sausages. They are more filling than you would assume from looking at this photo.
The Way of Human Rights. It is a collection of pillars that have the universal declaration of human rights inscribed on each pillar.
Nürnberg is my favourite German city so far without a doubt. It was like the German version of Luxembourg. You can see everything within a day because it’s a compact city. So it was more than worth the £20 return flight.
Nuremberg is not my only day trip to Germany. Feel free to check out my day trip to Hamburg and my day trip to Cologne.
Nürnberg is a great city to explore–great how much you can see of it in 12 hours.
weißgerbergasse is such a picturesque city, I love vintage looking cities too
