Luxembourg City…the fairy tale city. It looks like something from a storybook, and I was happy to spend a weekend there. Did you know that Luxembourg City used to be a fortress? Nope me neither. It’s very hilly and surrounded by a lot of greenery. There are some interesting places to see in Luxembourg City, and I am going to make some recommendations below based on some of the things I did.
- Chemin de la Corniche is pictured in the above photo. It’s a nice place to take in some beautiful views.
2. Chocolate House Nathalie Bonn is a must-see in Luxembourg. It’s a café where you can make your own hot chocolate by stirring a spoon of chocolate in hot milk. There are different flavours including caramel, matcha, vanilla, and eggnog. I brought back four different flavours.
3. Gëlle Fra statue is a war remembrance monument.
4. Casemates du Bock are underground tunnels that were bomb shelters during World War 2. Please be aware that there are many stairs in the casemates and they are steep. Don’t make the same mistake as me, by arriving in a dress and ankle boots.
5. Luxembourg American Cemetery Memorial is something I never got to see. This attraction is located in the town of Ham which is a few miles outside of Luxembourg city centre. You will need to plan in advance if you are in Luxembourg for a short time.
Luxembourg is one of the smallest countries in Europe and you can easily get a full experience within a weekend. I flew in on a Friday night and stayed in Mandarina Hotel which is walking distance from the airport, but also a short bus ride away from the city centre. People in Luxembourg speak French, German, English, and Luxembourgish. I would recommend this city to anyone who is interested in history and wants a quick weekend break.
